Stonehenge

Stonehenge
Stonehenge (Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire)—this is perhaps Britain’s oldest historic site (before even the Roman invasion of the country). Scholars and archaeologists believe that these tall heavy stones (that are formed in a circle on a field), go as far back as the Neolithic Age (around 3,000 BC), with the last changes made in the early Bronze Age (around 1,500 BC).
The ancient Britons believed that the Sun and Moon had special significance over their lives. It is very likely that they held special ceremonies at Stonehenge on Midsummer’s Day (the longest day of the year) and on Midwinter’s Day (the shortest day of the year). Others say that Stonehenge may have also been used for funerary ceremonies.
Due to current interest, there are now bus tours for those wanting to visit this site (with some buses coming from London). These are among the tour companies offering such visits: www.daytourslondon.com; www.goldentours.com; https://theenglishbus.com;
